Personal Food

As mentioned earlier, for statistical purposes the website offers a handpicked list of the most common and well-researched food. However, it is highly likely that some users will not find there the food they are used to. And even if their food is in the list, often the food content values may differ from what they used to see on their familiar Nutrition Facts Labels. If the differences are not acceptable for you or you didn't find your food (or something similar to it) in the list, you can create your own food either from scratch or using a template.

In both cases you start by going to the My Food page and pressing "Create New Food" button. As the provided form opens, you have to decide if you want to input values for all components and then give your food a name. Your next steps depend on the approach you prefer. If you choose to create something completely new, you should leave both the input field and checkbox "Use A Template" empty, and just fill your values in the form. The only required field is "Energy": you can't create your food without that. As to other fields, if you don't provide positive values, or provide non-numeric values, they will be filled with zeros. One of the good use cases of the approach might be creating, let's call it "My Pill", for example. Under that name you can input the nutrient values printed on the label of your vitamin/element supplements container thus making your intake fully accountable (if you are taking such pills, of course).

If you prefer to use a template, you should check the corresponding box and select an item from the existing food list. In this case the field "Energy" is also required but the applied algorithm is different. If you don't specify any positive numeric value for a given component, it won't be zeroed. The algorithm will take the value of this component from the selected template and multiply it by a coefficient derived from the division of the "Energy" value from the template by the "Energy" value you specified. Similarly, if you specify the value for protein and don't specify values for amino acids, the values for amino acids in your personal food will be the result of multiplication of the template's amino acids values by a coefficient derived from the division of the "Protein" value from the template by the "Protein" value you specified. If there are some discrepancies during new food creation, you will be notified.

You can manage all your personal food (review, edit or delete it) via My Food page. If you delete your personal food, all statistics related to it will be deleted too. As an option, you can delete all your food at once via My Profile page. If you want to edit your personal food, you shold keep in mind that you can do it only if this food has no statistical footprint. Otherwise we advise you to create new food using the food you want to edit as a template.
