Food Data

Food manufacturers usually put on food labels only basic data such as protein/fat/carbohydrate/salt content and energy value. Rarely there is more or less complete data on vitamins and minerals, and almost never – on amino acids. Fortunately, there is an excellent source offering a thorough analysis of the most popular food. It's the FoodData Central database of the US Department of Agriculture, and vitapro.fit uses its information to calculate the amount of different nutrients you consume with your food. However, it should be noted that the USDA database doesn't cover all things. Firstly, it lacks data on Biotin, Chrome, Vanadium and some other biologically important substances. Secondly, sometimes food entries in the database lack data on the nutrients that the database usually tracks. To deal with the latter issue, vitapro.fit uses the handpicked (from that database) LIST of most popular food with the most comprehensive description – about 500 entries long. It should be enough to cover the majority of diets and get quite a realistic picture of your vitamins/minerals/amino acids intake. After you add some food to your diary, you will find on the left-hand side of your entry a tiny info link leading to the food's information page. Besides data, you will also find there the link to the corresponding USDA page. If you want to extend the food list or solve the issue of initially absent nutrients, you can create your personal food.
