Units of Measurement

To improve the user experience, vitaro.fit offers several non-metric units of measurement in addition to the metric ones. In particular, you can measure the amount of your food not only in grams but also in ounces or table/tea spoons (when it's appropriate), and your weight and height – not only in kilograms and meters/centimeters but also in pounds and inches respectively. However, «under the hood», all those non-metric values go through conversion into metric ones because the source information on food, nutrient requirements, even energy equations – they rely all exclusively on metric units of measurement. The website uses the following conversion values: 1 once = 28.35 grams; 1 tbsp = 15 grams, 1 tsp = 5 grams; 1 inch = 2.54 cm: 1 pound = 0.454 kg. This conversion becomes visible when you deal with nutrient intake statistics: even if you input non-metric units in your food diary, the statistical output will always be in metric units. When it comes to energy equations or food diary, the conversion is hidden.
